Robert Lynn - ES1 Champion!
Irishman Robert Lynn has made a stunning return to the enduro scene after sustaining a badly broken leg back in 2008. Returning to top level competition for the first time since his breaking his left leg back in September of ’08 whilst competing in the ISDE, Greece, Lynn has taken the British Enduro Sprint Championship ES1 title at the final rounds of the championship held in Rhayader, Wales. Despite bad weather a difficult riding conditions the young Irishman started the first day in good form recording a string of fast test times and setting a pace for which others struggled to follow. By the end of the first day he was lying in fourth place in the highly competitive Experts class and had won ES1 by over eight seconds from his closest rival. Sunday saw the weather vastly improve but new challenges lay ahead with the course now being ran in the opposite direction from the previous day. Once again Lynn adapted to the drying conditions quickly eventually placing his TM 125 two-stroke in fourth place within the Experts class and dominating the ES1 sub class by a huge fourteen seconds margin. Throughout the series Robert has taken four out of six possible wins within the Expert Sprint 1 (ES1) class and has seen his times improve over the duration of the championship.
Robert Lynn “I’m really happy to be walking away with the ES1 title at the end of the championship. I’ve been out for so long with injury it was great to get back on the bike and be able to test myself on a lap to lap basis without having to ride for hours on end. Once I’d got the title under my belt on Saturday I concentrated on fighting for the over Expert victory on the second day and was pretty pleased with my times. I came close to winning one of the tests which shows I have the pace again so that’s what I’ll be aiming for next year. This format is a great idea and although I’ll always love riding traditional time card enduro events the Sprints are really helping me push my riding to the next level. To be honest I’d like to see them add a few more rounds to next year’s calendar, maybe five rounds would be about right. Thanks very much to PLE Engineering, TM, Shark helmets, TCX boots, CCM Racing, www.rpmcycles.ie and Go Mac signs for all their continued support.”
