2010 BESC opener...an event not to be missed

British Enduro Sprint Championship kicks off in style this weekend at Tetbury, Gloucestershire

The opening two rounds of the inaugural British Enduro Sprint Championship take place at Chavenage Farm, Near Tetbury, Gloucestershire this coming weekend, March 27-28, as series organisers GMC Events Ltd team up with the Midwest Motor Club. With the cream of Britain’s enduro talent competing one thing’s certain…it’ll be a not to be missed start to the ’10 BESC series.

Starting this exciting, new national championship in style the picturesque Chavenage Farm venue, set in the heart of the Cotswolds, will provide an enjoyable and challenging course, ensuring two days of exciting racing. With competition set to be close in all classes the event promises some great battles with international aces David Knight and Taddy Blazusiak among the stars of the show.

Knighter is unquestionably the rider all others will want to beat but stopping the mighty Manxman from claiming the top spot in the Elite class will be a big ask, even for the likes of Daryl Bolter, Si Wakely, Greg Evans, Philip McLaughlin and the rest of the Elite class. Taddy’s participation marks his one and only scheduled outing in the UK this year. Known for his extreme and indoor enduro skills the Polish factory KTM rider will be sure to surprise a few with his speed and all-action riding style. Disappointingly, Husaberg factory rider Joakim Ljunggren has withdrawn from the event.

The largest class in the event will be the Under 23 category. Despite recent injuries ruling a handful of top UK youngsters out of the competition there are still plenty of stars of tomorrow wanting to put their name at the top of the results. Ashley Wood, Ollie Moyce, Jamie Paget, Daniel McCanney, Alex Rockwell, James Giddings, Frazer Norrie and more will all be wanting to make a strong start to their ’10 BESC campaigns.

Not to be outdone the Expert class also looks set to provide memorable racing with a quality entry of experienced enduro racers all hoping to perform at their best at the BESC season opener.

David Knight – ‘09 British Enduro Champion, 2 x World Enduro Champion:

“Being a consistently fast special test racer is something that takes years to learn, so having a series in the UK where riders spend all day competing on special tests is a really good thing. It’s taken me years of competing in the world championship to fully understand what is needed to get fast times, I think the format will really bring on British riders. It’s a great opportunity to move enduro sport forward because it’s all about racing for the riders, which means it’s also going to be good for spectators. I’m looking forward to the first round of the series and I hope many other riders are too, there are a lot of up-and-coming young enduro riders in the UK now, competing in the BESC will certainly help them improve.”

Taddy Blazusiak – ’09 US Endurocross & IEWC champion:

“I’m really looking forward to the enduro sprint event. I enjoy special tests more than any other part of an enduro event so to spend two days doing nothing other than special tests will be great. As everyone knows it’s not exactly what I do as I’m an extreme enduro rider, but I’m always looking for ways to improve my speed and I know competing in the event will do that. Having fun is important and although I’ll be pushing as hard as I can do to as well as I can spending two days on my bike enjoying myself before the indoor events start again will be great. I’m also looking forward to meeting some of my fans in the UK, which I wasn’t able to do at The Tough One this year. I’m really looking forward to trying something new and spending some time racing in the UK.”

Daryl Bolter – ’09 Putoline Oils Sprint Enduro champion:

“Winning the first enduro sprint event in the UK last year was great and like all the riders I spoke to on the day I really enjoyed the new format. The best thing for me was the fact that everyone can really get involved in the event and enjoy the racing. As a racer the close competition is great. I’m really looking forward to the start of the British Enduro Sprint Championship, as I know a lot of people are.”
