Gas Gas Team Riders
GAS GAS riders were out in force at the Total Enduro Extreme Race at the popular ‘Westwood’ venue near Sheffield.
The action started at 11am with a Trials race which was won by GGUK spannerman Luke Meredith. Luke is ‘jack of all trades’ at the moment being successful at whatever he throws his leg over whether it be MX, Enduro, Trials or MTB!
The main race started at 1pm and GG Factory rider Dougie Lampkin was the main focus for us as well as the TRC GG Team of Michael Brown, Alexz Wigg and Jack Lee.
Dougie had a dream start and ‘hole-shotted’ the race and pushed hard on the first lap. Jack and Alexz also had good starts and were looking good.
Dougie then ‘cased’ the double jump on the MX track hard and stopped at the pits worried about his front wheel. Nothing seemed obviously wrong so he raced on. Jarvis caught and past him because Graham was on his usual charge and Doug slowed with something wrong. Doug stopped again on lap 3 where we found the ‘headstock’ lose. After tightening Doug again raced on. Still not happy Doug pulled out of the race with what we can only see as a front fork issue. The heavy landing on the double jump had obviously broken something inside his factory Ohlins forks. Doug was gutted to retire because he had a good start and loved the course. His ankle was not an issue heavily strapped in his MX Alpinestars.
Nevertheless, Team TRC GAS GAS kept the GG flag flying with Browny, Wiggy and Jack Lee all pushing hard. Browny had the chain off twice and was glad for a slight breather on the hour to refuel. He was flying on the last hour on ‘Factory Kevs EC200’ and really looked like an Extreme Enduro rider! He was well pleased to finished 3rd and on the podium. I asked if he would prefer another extreme enduro race or the Scott trial again. He soon replied ‘The Scott’ any day so this is proof that the course was indeed ‘extreme’!
Alexz Wigg also settled into a good pace and was going well. His obvious Trials skills and long legs helping him on the extreme parts. Alexz risked not stopping for fuel and finished the race on vapors in a fantastic 4th place!
Ever reliable Jack Lee cruised his CC300 around in his usual smooth style to finish a creditable 6th.
So we had a ‘DNF’ from Lampkin but a 3rd,4th and 6th from the TRC GG Teamsters to give GG a successful day J
Also worth a mention is Josh Law who won the clubmen class on his Sandiford GG.
Martin Sandiford also had a GG demo bike out at the previous days successful ‘RideoffRoad iron man extreme race’ with Jason Crossland winning the 0/40 class. Also at the same race my pal Steve Shaw won the 0/50 class on his GG CC250.
Thanks to Kev for the pics of Team TRC GG
Thanks to Luke for prepping Michaels’ bike.
